This project documents my relationship with Barbara, whom I met in Philosophy class at the Cégep de Saint-Laurent in 2018. We had known each other before, but it wasn’t until we began inviting each other for supper frequently that we formed the strong bond we share today.
With a Solace System, I sought to capture moments of platonic intimacy within our friendship and the mundane moments spent together in the winter of 2020. When Barbara and I were going through rough times, we could always count on one another to comfort each other with tea and chocolate cookies.
The project transitioned online when the COVID-19 pandemic started and we couldn’t see eachother while in lockdown.
This work was made in 4x5 and the black and white photographs are printed in a 16x20 format.
Ce projet documente ma relation avec Barbara, que j’ai rencontrée pendant notre cours de philosophie au Cégep de Saint-Laurent en 2018. On se connaissait auparavant, mais notre relation s’est approfondie lors de soupers passés à cuisiner et discuter ensemble et à regarder Occupation Double.
Avec A Solace System, j’ai tenté de capturer ces moments d’intimité platonique présents dans les relations d’amitié ainsi que les moments banals que nous avons passés ensemble en hiver 2020. Lorsque nous n’allions pas bien, nous pouvions toujours compter l’une sur l’autre pour se réconforter à l’aide de biscuits au chocolat et tasses de thé.
Ce projet a dû être abandonné dans sa forme analogue alors que nous étions dans l’obligation de rester à la maison pendant la crise COVID-19.
Ce travail a été effectué en 4x5 et les photographies en noir et blanc ont été imprimées en format 16x20
